Welcome to the world’s largest public, online source of information about Wang® VS computer systems!

It was 1995. There was no Wang® VS newsgroup… no Wang® Labs home page*… What was a VS person to do? This site was my answer to that. Welcome to a friendly place for the many tens of thousands of people worldwide who have worked with Wang® VS systems.

(*There is a Wang® Website now: Wang® Global)

(Oops! That one is gone. Try this one: VS WebCenter at Getronics.)

Check out our Links page for a few remaining Wang-related websites.

OK, gang — here it is, without apologies: A place to give and get information on the unkillable Wang® VS, a line of computers that has persisted for over 32 years in this confused world of unix and client/server experiments.

When I started this website, more than ten thousand VS computers were in operation around the world. They ranged in capacity from small systems that supported a handful of users to large systems that served 500 or more users. They ran applications written in COBOL, BASIC, RPG, PL/I… even <eek!> FORTRAN. They ran Wang® PACE database applications, imaging, very robust communication networking with seamless email, file transfer and remote logon services that worked flawlessly across tens, hundreds or thousands of systems. They served as SNA gateways and print servers to mainframes. They connected to TCP/IP networks and supported ftp and telnet. Gosh, they were nice!
