Henry Struckman

May 12, 1962 – August 30, 2002

Houston, Texas

Henry was a good friend. I miss him dearly.

Henry was born in Omak, Washington. His father had made violins for a living and his mother had been a farmgirl. He spent his early life in Washington and Idado, including a difficult time on an Indian reservation after his mother divorced and remarried an American Indian. A forest service job introduced him to programming, and a rare superprogrammer was born. He became extremely proficient at programming, moving from the Wang 2200 to the Wang VS, and made significant contributions to products and applications of Caelus, Kent Electronics, KTec Electronics and the Sure Start division of Exide. In his later years he worked in Visual Basic, Access and was beginning to develop Web applications.

Daughter Kristina and son William were born in Spokane, Washington. Son Devin was born in Houston after Henry and his first wife came here in 1986. Henry returned to Spokane in 1994, then went to work in Greenville, Texas in July of 1996, then back to Houston in December of 1999 with second wife Karen.

Henry had widely varied interests and skills in diverse areas from woodworking to jewelrymaking to photography and high-end audio. There was little he could not learn and do, and I only wish he had seen himself as formidable as some others saw him.

Henry passed away on the morning of Friday, August 30, 2002, at home, at the age of 40.
