We Survived Hurricane Rita

Tuesday, 27-Sep-05, 0900 hours

Electric power has remained stable. Cable Internet had an extended outage yesterday, probably due to repairs being made to the distribution infrastructure, much of which consists of poles along roads and streets. As far as we know our T1 line suffered no outages at any time during the emergency. Fuel is more widely available and businesses are reopening. We hope that all our staff will have returned to Houston by the end of today. Our operations should return to normal by Thursday.

Monday, 26-Sep-05, 0730 hours

Electric power has stablized and our computer facilities are up and running. Most of our people are still outside Houston. Fuel is still scarce and businesses are still mostly closed. Authorities are advising people who evacuated the Houston area not to return immediately. Our businesses will not return to normal until after a few days.

Sunday, 25-Sep-05, 0730 hours

Most of the staffs of TransVirtual Systems, Lightspeed NVS and The Unofficial Wang VS Information Center evacuated from Houston on or before Thursday, Sep 22. They will be returning Monday and Tuesday, Sep 26 and 27. It may be a few days before operations are back to normal.

Our Houston facilities are northwest of Houston, slightly outside the city line:

Numerous brief power interruptions occurred and two principal locations where servers are operated experienced extended power outages, one for about 12 hours and the other for about an hour. Some minor equipment difficulties were experienced bringing the networks and servers back on line.
